Photography is my career, but first, I’m a mom— and as a mom in Grapevine, this is the kind of list I wish I’d had saved from day one. Whether you’re new here or just looking for a few new places to explore, I hope this helps you make sweet memories close to home.
Some days call for fresh air, snacks, and no real plan— the toddler trifecta. When cabin fever hits or you just need an easy change of scenery, these are my favorite local spots that always deliver a little sunshine, space to play, and maybe (if the stars align) a solid nap afterward. Between Grapevine and Southlake, we’re lucky to have so many places that make childhood feel simple again — where there’s room to run, sand to dig, and trails that seem to stretch as far as their little legs will carry them.
Bicentennial Park — Southlake
Fenced-in (a parenting miracle), with wide playgrounds, a splash pad in summer, and a sand pit that keeps little ones happily occupied. There’s plenty of shade, clean restrooms, and open grass for picnics.
Dove Park + Dove Waterpark — Grapevine
In the cooler months, Dove’s playground is perfect for unhurried mornings. In summer, the Dove Waterpark next door is a toddler favorite, it has shallow zero entry areas, gentle slides, and plenty of shade.
Horseshoe Trail & Parr Park — Grapevine
Two connected trail systems with paved paths made for strollers, scooters, and exploring at your own pace. You’ll find multiple playgrounds tucked along the way, so you can choose between quiet walks or park-hopping afternoons.
Rockledge Park — Grapevine
For little adventurers who love water, this is a must. It’s the perfect place for throwing stones, hiking the lakefront, or (in warmer months) swimming near the shore. Bring sturdy shoes— and maybe an extra outfit or two.
Nash Farm — Grapevine
A slice of history in the middle of town. Kids can see farm animals, run through open fields, and explore the property’s old barns. It’s calm, charming, and one of those places that slows time down a little. My daughter loves to say Baaaa to the sheep, and the chickens are always a toddler hit.
Bright Side Play (Southlake) + Peek N Play (Grapevine)
When it’s raining or we’re having on of our 105 degree Texas days, Bright Side Play or Peek N Play save the day. Both are bright, clean, and fully indoor- ideal for toddlers who need to climb, slide, and burn energy safely. Thoughtfully set-up play areas, clean design, and lots of room for imagination.
No matter the season, Grapevine and Southlake make it easy to find small adventures, the kind that don’t require long drives or perfect planning. We feel so lucky to have so many options just outside or door.
If you’re local (or soon will be), I hope this list gives you a few new ideas for slow mornings and rainy afternoons. And if you’re looking for a Grapevine family photographer who sees beauty in these everyday adventures, I’d love to help you preserve the magic of your motherhood and this beautiful season of life with littles.
A calm, heartfelt motherhood session with a 19-month-old and his mama at Cottonwood Collective in Plano. Soft light, simple surroundings, and genuine connection— the kind of session that reminds you just how beautiful this stage really is.
