Why we chose Grapevine when moving to DFW

A look at what made us fall in love with this town— and how to spend a day seeing it for yourself.

When we moved to the Dallas–Fort Worth area, I knew we weren’t just choosing a place to live, we were choosing a place to grow roots and start a family. I wanted somewhere that still felt like a community, with a small-town heartbeat, but close enough to everything we’d need.

Grapevine checked every box. The trees here glow gold in late afternoon light by the lake, the historic downtown feels like something out of a Hallmark movie (especially in December, hello Christmas Capitol of Texas), and the people always wave as you pass them on the trails. There’s a warmth here that reminds me why I fell in love with storytelling in the first place, it’s a city that still feels human, full of families who value connection.

Grapevine is a place where every season brings something worth noticing: wildflowers in spring, barefoot evenings by the lake in summer, the glow of Main Street at Christmas. It’s inspiring, but it’s also deeply livable, and that balance makes it special.

If you’re new to DFW and wondering where to settle, this little corner of it holds so much heart. There’s a thousand things to do with kids, the parks are full of life, and there’s a sense of community that feels rare these days. You’ll find coffee shops where the barista learns your name, and weekend markets that remind you to slow down.

Whether you’re already here unpacking boxes or just starting to exploring these neighborhoods, I hope Grapevine begins to feel like home for you as quickly as it did for us. And if you’re looking for a Grapevine family photographer who understands the rhythm of motherhood and everyday life, I’d love to help you preserve the beauty of this new season.

Coming to Grapevine for the Day?

Here’s how I’d spend it if I were visiting with my family.

Morning

Start the day with a walk at Parr Park. The trails wind beneath big Texas sky, and if you catch it early enough, the light feels soft and cinematic, the kind that makes you want to slow down and breathe. There’s a great playground tucked inside the park, perfect if little legs need to burn off energy. Alternately, pack a picnic and relax under the trees at Grapevine’s Botanical Gardens (they have a playground, too!).

Midday

Head to Harvest Hall for lunch, there’s something for everyone, from tacos to pasta, and plenty of space for strollers or wiggly toddlers. It’s an absolutely beautiful space but it’s also open enough that no one cares if your littles aren’t using their inside voice. If you have time after, stroll down Main Street after and peek into the local shops, it’s full of charm and history.

Afternoon

When the weather’s nice, Rockledge Park is my favorite spot to catch the breeze off the lake. In summer, you can dip your feet in or make an afternoon out of swimming; in cooler months, the rocky trails make for a beautiful little hike with incredible views. It’s one of those places that reminds you why people fall in love with Texas sunsets.

Late Afternoon Pick-Me-Up

After all of that, I’d be needing caffeine, so my next suggestion: stop by Redefined Coffee House downtown, it’s cozy, flooded natural light, and the calm, local energy makes you want to linger.

Evening

Wrap up with dinner at Sauce’d Pizza, or grab it to go— easy, family-friendly, and always delicious. If you time it right, you’ll catch that perfect glow spilling across Main Street as the sun goes down.

If you end the day thinking, “I could see us here,” you’re not alone, that’s exactly how I felt, too.

This post mentions some of my favorite local Grapevine spots, none of them are sponsored, just places I genuinely love.
