I had the pleasure of photographing Katie and Jim while I was living in Alaska last year and it was such a fun experience. There are so many incredible things to be said about them. As much as anyone could ever want anything, they wanted to be parents, and it's safe to say that anyone who ever met them could tell that they were absolutely meant to be.
We met at a local coffee shop to view product samples, discuss the session details and get to know each other a bit before the day of the shoot. When they walked in all I could think was that describing Katie as radiant would have been a huge understatement. Their presence was calming and their happiness was infectious. She was absolutely glowing. They were two people who had finally received their miracle.
Heavy snow storms caused us to reschedule their maternity session twice, and when we finally met at Beluga Point to shoot, it was the morning of their 11th wedding anniversary. I couldn't imagine having shot on any other day. Baring witness to their love and capturing their connection on such a special day was truly humbling. I wanted to create photographs that their son could look back on and treasure, art that would capture the immensity of the love they have for each other, and for him.
Baby Elias made his arrival just about a week after our maternity session.
They had waited so long for him, and finally, they were complete.
